How many grams are in a tola?
One tola is 11.664 grams. It is also 12 masha, and one masha is 8 ratti, so a tola is 96 ratti. The calculator converts between all four.
How do I calculate the price of 22K or 21K gold?
Multiply the 24K rate by the karat divided by 24. For example, 22K gold is 22/24 (91.7%) pure, so at a 24K rate of Rs 400,000 a tola, 22K is about Rs 366,700 a tola. Jewellers’ 22K and 21K rates can differ slightly from this, so treat the result as an estimate.
What are making charges?
Making charges (banwai) are what the jeweller charges for crafting the jewellery, usually a percentage of the gold value or a fixed amount per tola. They are not returned when you sell, so jewellery sells for less than its purchase price.
Where do I get today’s gold rate?
Use the rate from your local sarafa (gold) market or jeweller, or the rate announced by the All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association. Enter the 24K rate per tola; the calculator works out other karats.
Do I have to pay Zakat on gold?
Zakat is due on gold held for a lunar year once your total zakatable wealth reaches the nisab. Scholars differ on jewellery in regular use. Use the Zakat calculator to include your gold with your other assets.
